NEW DELHI: If a legal battle against two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar was not enough to derail
Narsingh Yadav's Rio preparations, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on Sunday confirmed that World Championship bronze medallist Narsingh tested positive for banned substance in random tests conducted on July 5.
What exacerbated an extraordinary situation further was that Sandeep Tulsi Yadav, Narsingh's sparring partner at SAI Sonepat, too tested positive. A world championship bronze medallist in Greco-Roman, Tulsi Yadav tested positive and the traces of steroid is in very high quantity, it was understood. The WFI, which is yet to receive official communication from NADA, will meet on Monday to take stock of the situation.
"We will take stock of the situation on Monday when the president Brij Bhushan will be here. We are yet to receive official communication from NADA," WFI secretary Vinod Tomar told TOI on Sunday. "Narsingh is one of India's disciplined grapplers who never shied away from any dope test. WFI has learnt that the quantity steroid in the sample is very high that it is hard to believe that it was a deliberate move," WFI official added. "It looks like a case of sabotage as no athlete is so stupid to make such a mistake so close to the Olympics," another WFI official explained.
